Spring
봄

 

Come, my beloved; let us walk amidst the knolls,
For the snow is water, and Life is alive from its
Slumber and is roaming the hills and valleys.
Let us follow the footprints of Spring into the
Distant fields, and mount the hilltops to draw
Inspiration high above the cool green plains.
오라, 내 사랑하는 이여.
우리 함께 작은 언덕 사이를 거닐어보자.
눈은 녹아 물이 되고, 생명들은 잠에서 깨어나
언덕과 골짜기를 걸어다니고 있다.
우리함께 봄의 발자국을 따라 먼 들녘으로 가보자.
아름다운 초록의 벌판을 넘어 영감(靈感)을 얻으러
작은 언덕 꼭대기까지 올라 가보자.

 

Dawn of Spring has unfolded her winter-kept garment
And placed it on the peach and citrus trees; and
They appear as brides in the ceremonial custom of
the Night of Kedre.
봄의 여명(黎明)은 그녀의 겨울옷을 벗어
복숭아나무와 감귤나무에 펼쳐두었다.
그것은 마치 전통 축제의 밤에 곱게 차려입어
치장한 새색시들 같구나.

 

The sprigs of grapevine embrace each other like
Sweethearts, and the brooks burst out in dance
Between the rocks, repeating the song of joy;
And the flowers bud suddenly from the heart of
Nature, like foam from the rich heart of the sea.
작은 포도덩굴들은 사랑하는 연인들처럼 서로 포옹하고,
시냇물들은 기쁨의 노래를 부르며, 바위사이를 춤추며
튀어 오른다.
꽃들은 마치 풍성한 바다로부터 이는 물거품처럼
갑자기 자연의 가슴으로부터 나타나 봉오리를 맺는다.

 

Come, my beloved; let us drink the last of Winter's
Tears from the cupped lilies, and soothe our spirits
With the shower of notes from the birds, and wander
In exhilaration through the intoxicating breeze.
오라, 내 사랑하는 이여. 우리 백합모양의 잔으로
지나간 겨울의 눈물을 마시자.
그리고 새들의 지저귀는 노래소리에 빠져
우리의 마음을 달래보자.
그리고 산들바람에 취해 즐겁게 거닐어보자.

 

Let us sit by that rock, where violets hide; let us
Pursue their exchange of the sweetness of kisses.
그리고 제비꽃들이 숨어있는 바위 곁에 앉아
그들이 나누는 달콤한 입맞춤을 바라보자.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Summer
여름

 

Let us go into the fields, my beloved, for the
Time of harvest approaches, and the sun's eyes
Are ripening the grain.
내 사랑아 들녘으로 가자.
태양의 눈이 곡식을 익게 하고
이제 수확의 계절이 다가온다.

 

Let us tend the fruit of the earth, as the
Spirit nourishes the grains of Joy from the
Seeds of Love, sowed deep in our hearts.
영혼이 본래의 사랑으로
곡식들을 기쁨으로 길러내듯이,
우리도 우리의 마음속에 깊이 뿌려진
지상의 열매들을 보살펴주자.

 

Let us fill our bins with the products of
Nature, as life fills so abundantly the
Domain of our hearts with her endless bounty.
생명이 자신의 끝없는 너그러움으로
우리 마음의 곳간을 채우듯
우리도 자연의 산물로 우리의 창고를 가득 채우자.

 

Let us make the flowers our bed, and the
Sky our blanket, and rest our heads together
Upon pillows of soft hay.
Let us relax after the day's toil, and listen
To the provoking murmur of the brook.
꽃으로 우리의 침실을 꾸미자.
그리고 하늘을 우리의 이불로 삼고
부드러운 풀을 우리의 베개삼아
우리함께 몸을 그 위에 쉬게 하자.
열심히 일한 후에는 편히 쉬며
시냇물의 조잘대는 속삭임에 귀 기울여보자.

 

 

 

  

Autumn
가을

 

Let us go and gather grapes in the vineyard
For the winepress, and keep the wine in old
Vases, as the spirit keeps Knowledge of the
Ages in eternal vessels.
포도밭에 포도를 수확하러 가자.
포도를 압착기에 짜서 만든 포도주를
마음이 시대의 지식들을 영원한 그릇에 담아두듯이
우리의 오래된 항아리에 담아두자.

 

Let us return to our dwelling, for the wind has
Caused the yellow leaves to fall and shroud the
Withering flowers that whisper elegy to Summer.
집으로 돌아가자.
바람은 노란 잎새들을 땅으로 떨구고
시들어 가는 꽃들은 감싸 덮어
지나간 여름에게 슬픈 노래를 속삭이고 있다.

 

Come home, my eternal sweetheart, for the birds
Have made pilgrimage to warmth and lest the chilled
Prairies suffering pangs of solitude. The jasmine
And myrtle have no more tears.
영원한 내 사랑아, 집으로 가자.
이제 새들은 따뜻한 남쪽나라로 순례여행을 떠났고
쓸쓸한 초원만이 고통스러운 고독의 아픔을 견뎌내고 있다.
자스민과 은매화도 더 이상 눈물 흘리지 않는다.

 

Let us retreat, for the tired brook has
Ceased its song; and the bubblesome springs
Are drained of their copious weeping; and
Their cautious old hills have stored away
Their colorful garments.
우리도 물러가자.
지친 시냇물도 노래부르기를 멈추었고
끊임없이 솟던 풍부한 샘물도 말라가고 
신중한 옛 언덕들도 화려한 옷들을
접어 간직해 두었다.

 

Come, my beloved; Nature is justly weary
And is bidding her enthusiasm farewell
With quiet and contented melody.
사랑하는 이여, 내게로 오라.
대자연도 이제는 지쳐서
조용하고 만족스런 선율로
그녀의 지난 여름 열정에 작별을 고하고 있다.

 

 

 

 

 

Winter
겨울

 

Come close to me, oh companion of my full life;
Come close to me and let not Winter's touch
Enter between us. Sit by me before the hearth,
For fire is the only fruit of Winter.
나와 모든 인생을 함께 했던 친구여, 가까이 오라.  
내게로 가까이 와서 겨울의 손길이 우리 사이에
들어오지 못하게 하자.
불은 겨울날 우리들의 유일한 벗이려니
친구야, 벽난로 앞 내 곁으로 와서 앉아라.

 
Speak to me of the glory of your heart, for
That is greater than the shrieking elements
Beyond our door.
Bind the door and seal the transoms, for the
Angry countenance of the heaven depresses my
Spirit, and the face of our snow-laden fields
Makes my soul cry.
그대 마음속의 큰 기쁨을 나에게 말해다오.
그것은 문밖에서 소리치며 지나가는 바람보다
더 멋진 이야기이기에...
문을 꼭 닫고 채광 창을 막아버리자.
천국의 화난 얼굴이 내 영혼을 억누르고
우리의 눈 덮인 들판의 얼굴이 우리의 영혼을
울게 하기에... 

 

Feed the lamp with oil and let it not dim, and
Place it by you, so I can read with tears what
Your life with me has written upon your face.
램프에 기름을 채우고 그것을 곁으로 가져와 불을 밝히자.
그리고 나와 함께 한 그대의 생명이 그대의 얼굴에
무엇을 써 놓았는지
내가 눈물을 글썽이며 읽을 수 있도록.. 

 

Bring Autumn's wine. Let us drink and sing the
Song of remembrance to Spring's carefree sowing,
And Summer's watchful tending, and Autumn's
Reward in harvest.
가을에 수확한 포도주를 가져와
즐겁게 봄에 씨를 뿌리고
여름에 조심스럽게 돌보고
가을에 수확을 거두던
그 추억의 노래를 부르면서 마시자.

 

Come close to me, oh beloved of my soul; the
Fire is cooling and flee ing under the ashes.
Embrace me, for I fear loneliness; the lamp is
Dim, and the wine which we pressed is closing
Our eyes. Let us look upon each other before
They are shut.
더 가까이 오라. 내 사랑하는 영혼의 연인이여.
불길이 식어 재 속으로 사라지고 있다.
외로움은 너무 무섭다. 그러니 친구여, 나를 껴안아 다오.
램프의 불빛은 가물거리고
우리가 만들었던 포도주는 우리의 눈을 감긴다.
우리, 눈을 감기 전에 서로를 바라보자.

 

Find me with your arms and embrace me; let
Slumber then embrace our souls as one.
Kiss me, my beloved, for Winter has stolen
All but our moving lips.
그대의 팔로 나를 찾아서 껴안아주고,
그리하여 우리의 영혼이 하나가 되어 잠들게 하자.
내 사랑하는 이여, 나에게 입 맞추어다오.
겨울은 우리의 떨리는 입술만 남겨두고
모든 것을 훔쳐 가버렸다.

 

You are close by me, My Forever.
How deep and wide will be the ocean of Slumber,
And how recent was the dawn!
나의 사랑 나의 영원이여,
그대는 내 곁에 있고,
잠의 바다는 그 얼마나 넓고 깊으며,
그리고 새벽은 그 얼마나 가까이 있는가!
