T-31.VIII.1. 유혹은, 그 어디서 일어나든, 온갖 형태로 이 하나의 교시를 주려 한다. 2유혹은 하느님의 거룩한 아들을 설득하리라. 그는 죽어야만 하는 것으로 태어나, 그 유약함을 벗어날 수 없고, 그것이 느끼도록 지시하는 것에 묶여 있는 육신에 지나지 않는다고. 3몸이 그가 할 수 있는 것의 한계를 정해버린다. 몸의 힘이 그가 가진 유일한 힘이며, 그의 능력은 육체가 도달할 수 있는 한계를 넘어서지 못한다. 4그리스도가 그의 모든 영광 속에 나타나 네게 다만 이렇게 청하는데도, 너는 죽어야만 하는 것이 되기를 원하려는가?
5다시 선택하라. 세상 구원자의 일원이 될 것인가, 아니면 지옥에 남아 형제를 그곳에 계속 붙잡아 둘 것인가.
6그리스도가 왔고, 그가 이것을 청하고 있다.
T-31.VIII.2. 네가 이 선택을 어떻게 내릴 수 있는가? 2이것이 얼마나 이해하기 쉽게 설명되는가! 3너는 언제나 너의 약함과 네 안에 있는 그리스도의 강함 중에 선택하며, 4네가 실재라고 생각하는 것을 선택한다. 5너는 너의 행동을 지시할 때 결코 약함을 사용하지 않음으로써 약함에 힘을 부여하지 않는다. 6그리하여 네 안에 있는 그리스도의 빛이 너의 모든 행함을 담당한다. 7너는 너의 약함을 그리스도에게 가져왔고, 그리스도가 자신의 힘을 너에게 주었기 P702 때문이다.
T-31.VIII.3. 시련이란 미처 배우지 못한 교훈들이 다시 한 번 주어지는 것일 뿐, 그리하여 이제 너는 이전에 그릇된 선택을 내렸던 자리에서 더 나은 선택을 내릴 수 있고, 그러므로 이전의 선택이 가져다 준 모든 고통에서 벗어날 수 있는 것이다. 2고난에 빠질 때마다, 괴롭고 당혹스러워 할 때마다, 그리스도는 너를 불러 부드럽게 말한다. “나의 형제여, 다시 선택하라.” 3그는 고통의 근원을 남김없이 치유할 것이며, 진실을 가리는 그 어떤 형상도 남겨두지 않을 것이다. 4그는 기쁨의 제단으로 창조된 네게서 모든 괴로움을 없앨 것이다. 5그는 너를 위안 없이 지옥의 꿈속에 홀로 남겨두지 않을 것이며, 그의 얼굴을 가리는 모든 것에서 네 마음을 해방할 것이다. 6그의 거룩함은 곧 너의 거룩함이니, 그는 네 안에 실재하는 유일한 권능이기 때문이다. 7그의 힘이 곧 너의 힘이니, 그는 하느님께서 독생자로 창조하신 자아Self이기 때문이다.
T-31.VIII.4. 네가 만든 형상이 하느님께서 뜻하시는 너의 정체를 이길 수는 없다. 2그러므로 결코 유혹을 두려워 말라. 유혹을 다만 있는 그대로 또 다른 기회로 보라. 그리하여 네가 예전에 너의 자아상을 일으켰던 모든 상황과 모든 장소에서 그리스도의 힘이 승리하게 하라. 3그리스도의 얼굴을 숨기는 듯한 것은 그리스도의 위엄 앞에서 힘을 잃고, 그의 거룩한 시야 앞에서 사라진다. 4그리스도처럼 보는 세상의 구원자는 다만 그리스도에게서 분리된 듯한 자신들의 약함이 아니라 그리스도의 힘을 선택한 자들이다. 5그들이 세상을 속량할 것이니, 그들은 하느님 뜻의 모든 권능 안에서 결합했기 때문이다. 6그리고 그들이 뜻하는 것은 오직 하느님이 뜻하시는 것이다.
T-31.VIII.5. 그러므로 자신을 약하고 비참한 자로 지각하려는 모든 유혹에 이렇게 반응하는 행복한 습관을 익히라.
2나는 하느님이 창조하신 그대로이다. 3하느님의 아들은 고통받을 수 없다. 4나는 하느님의 아들이다.
5그리하여 결코 실패할 수 없는 하느님에게서 나온 힘으로 너의 모든 약함을 대신하도록 그리스도의 힘이 승리하기 위해 초대되었다. 6그리하여 거룩함을 선택하기 이전에는 두려움과 고뇌가 자연스러워 보였듯, 이제는 기적이 자연스럽다. 7이 선택을 내림으로써 거짓 P703 된 구분은 사라지고, 허울뿐인 대안들이 치워지며, 진리를 방해하는 것은 아무것도 남지 않기 때문이다.
T-31.VIII.6. 너는 하느님이 창조하신 그대로이며, 따라서 네가 보는 모든 생명도 보이는 형상과 상관없이 하느님이 창조하신 그대로이다. 2네가 병과 고통, 약함과 괴로움과 상실로 보는 것들은 다만 너 자신을 무방비 상태로 지옥에 있다고 지각하려는 유혹일 뿐이다. 3거기에 굴하지 말라. 그러면 모든 형태의 고통이 어디서 일어났든 다만 태양 앞의 안개처럼 사라지는 것을 보게 되리라. 4하느님의 아들을 치유하고, 그의 약함의 꿈을 향해 열려있던 문을 닫고, 그의 구원과 해방의 길을 열기 위해 기적 하나가 왔다. 5네가 내리는 모든 선택이 너의 정체를 확립하고, 너는 그것을 보고 너라고 믿게 된다는 점을 기억하면서, 그가 무엇이기를 원하는지 다시 선택하라.
T-31.VIII.7. 내가 청하는 작은 선물을 주지 않겠다고 나를 거부하지 말라. 나는 네가 주는 선물에 보답하여 하느님의 평화를 네 앞에 두었고, 끊임없는 두려움 속에서 확신 없이 홀로 세상을 방황하는 모든 이에게 그 평화를 주는 권능도 함께 두었다. 2세상을 방황하는 자와 결합하고, 네 안의 그리스도를 통해 그의 눈가리개를 벗겨 그들이 자신 안에서 그리스도를 보게 하는 것이 네가 해야 할 일이기 때문이다.
T-31.VIII.8. 나와 함께 구원하는 형제들이여, 내 음성을 듣고 내 말에 귀를 기울이라. 2나는 너의 해방을 청할 뿐 아무것도 요구하지 않는다. 3한 걸음에 천국에 닿을 정도로 사랑스럽고 포괄적이 될 수 있는 세상에는 지옥이 있을 곳이 없다. 4나는 너의 지친 눈에 다른 모습의 세상을 가져오니, 지극히 새롭고 깨끗하고 신선한 그 모습에 너는 이전에 보았던 고통과 괴로움을 잊을 것이다. 5네가 보는 모든 이들과 나눠야 할 비전은 바로 그것이니, 그것은 함께 나누지 않는다면 볼 수 없을 것이기 때문이다. 6이 선물을 주는 것이 그것을 네 것으로 만드는 길이다. 7자애로우신 하느님은 이 선물을 네 것이 되게 하셨다.
T-31.VIII.9. 세상을 걸으며, 다시 한 번 하느님의 선물이 우리의 것임을 알아보는 또 다른 상황을 지각할 수많은 기회를 발견할 수 있음에 기뻐하자! 2그리하여 지옥의 모든 흔적, 은밀한 죄와 감춰진 증오가 모두 사라지리라. 3그것들이 감추었던 모든 사랑스러움이 천국의 초원처럼 우리의 시야에 나타나, 그리스도를 보기 전에 걸었던 가시밭 길 위로 우리를 높이 들어 올리리라. 4나의 형제여 내 말을 들으라. 듣고 나와 결합하라. 5내가 헛되이 부를 수 없다고 하느님께서 정하셨으니, 나는 하느님의 확신 안에서 만족하며 안식하노라. 6왜냐하면 너는 들 P704 을 것이요, 듣고 다시 선택할 것이며, 7이 선택으로 모든 이들이 해방되기 때문이다.
T-31.VIII.10. 아버지, 감사합니다. 이 거룩한 이들은 당신의 아들이듯 나의 형제입니다. 2그들에 대한 나의 믿음은 당신의 믿음입니다. 3그들이 무엇이며 영원히 무엇일지 당신께서 확신하시듯, 나도 그들이 내게 오리라 확신합니다. 4내가 주는 선물은 당신께서 그들을 위해 내게 주신 선물이기에 그들은 받을 것입니다. 5내가 오직 당신의 거룩한 뜻만을 행하듯이, 그들도 그러기로 택할 것입니다. 6그러므로 그들을 주신 아버지께 감사합니다. 7그들이 선택할 때마다 구원의 노래가 세상에 울려 퍼지니, 8우리는 하나의 목적을 가졌으며, 지옥의 종말이 가까웠기 때문입니다.
T-31.VIII.11. 나는 나와 함께 유혹을 넘어서려 하며, 흔들림 없는 결단으로 그 너머에 있는 변함없이 완벽한 빛을 비라보는 모든 형제들을 기쁘게 환영하며 손을 내밉니다. 2그들은 당신께 속한 자들이오니, 나와 같은 이들을 내게 주옵소서. 3당신께서 당신의 뜻을 이루지 못하리이까? 4내 형제들의 정체에 대해 당신께 감사합니다. 5형제가 나와 결합하기로 선택할 때마다, 지상에서 천국까지 이르는 감사의 찬송이, 뿔뿔이 흩어져서 부르던 가냘픈 선율에서 지옥으로부터 구원된 세상에서 모두가 참여하는 웅대한 합창으로 자라나 당신께 감사를 올립니다.
T-31.VIII.12. 그러므로 이제 우리는 ‘아멘’이라 합니다. 2시간이 존재하기 이전, 당신께서 그리스도를 위해 예비하신 처소로 그리스도가 고요한 영원 속에 왔기 때문입니다. 3여행은 시작되었던 곳에서 막을 내립니다. 4아무런 흔적도 남아 있지 않습니다. 5단하나의 허상에도 믿음이 주어지지 않고, 그 누구에게든 그리스도의 얼굴을 가리는 한 점의 어둠도 남아 있지 않습니다. 6당신의 뜻이 완전하고 완벽하게 이루어져, 모든 창조물이 당신을 알아보고, 당신만이 그들의 근원이심을 압니다. 7당신 안에서 살고 움직이는 모든 것에서 당신처럼 명확한 빛이 환히 비춥니다. 8우리는 우리 모두가 하나이며, 당신께서 우리에게 머무르라 뜻하신 집에 도착했기 때문입니다. VIII. Choose once Again
T-31.VIII.1. Temptation has one lesson it would teach, in all its forms, wherever it occurs. 2It would persuade the holy Son of God he is a body, born in what must die, unable to escape its frailty, and bound by what it orders him to feel. 3It sets the limits on what he can do; its power is the only strength he has; his grasp cannot exceed its tiny reach. 4Would you be this, if Christ appeared to you in all His glory, asking you but this:
5Choose once again if you would take your place among the saviors of the world, or would
remain in hell, and hold your brothers there.
6For He has come, and He is asking this.
T-31.VIII.2. How do you make the choice? 2How easily is this explained! 3You always choose between your weakness and the strength of Christ in you. 4And what you choose is what you think is real. 5Simply by never using weakness to direct your actions, you have given it no power. 6And the light of Christ in you is given charge of everything you do. 7For you have brought your weakness unto Him, and He has given you His strength instead.
T-31.VIII.3. Trials are but lessons that you failed to learn presented once again, so where you made a faulty choice before you now can make a better one, and thus escape all pain that what you chose before has brought to you. 2In every difficulty, all distress, and each perplexity Christ calls to you and gently says, "My brother, choose again." 3He would not leave one source of pain unhealed, nor any image left to veil the truth. 4He would remove all misery from you whom God created altar unto joy. 5He would not leave P666 you comfortless, alone in dreams of hell, but would release your mind from everything that hides His face from you. 6His Holiness is yours because He is the only power that is real in you. 7His strength is yours because He is the Self that God created as His only Son.
T-31.VIII.4. The images you make cannot prevail against what God Himself would have you be. 2Be never fearful of temptation, then, but see it as it is; another chance to choose again, and let Christ's strength prevail in every circumstance and every place you raised an image of yourself before. 3For what appears to hide the face of Christ is powerless before His majesty, and disappears before His holy sight. 4The saviors of the world, who see like Him, are merely those who choose His strength instead of their own weakness, seen apart from Him. 5They will redeem the world, for they are joined in all the power of the Will of God. 6And what they will is only what He wills.
T-31.VIII.5. Learn, then, the happy habit of response to all temptation to perceive yourself as weak and miserable with these words:
2I am as God created me. 3His Son can suffer nothing. 4And I am His Son.
5Thus is Christ's strength invited to prevail, replacing all your weakness with the strength that comes from God and that can never fail. 6And thus are miracles as natural as fear and agony appeared to be before the choice for holiness was made. 7For in that choice are false distinctions gone, illusory alternatives laid by, and nothing left to interfere with truth.
T-31.VIII.6. You are as God created you, and so is every living thing you look upon, regardless of the images you see. 2What you behold as sickness and as pain, as weakness and as suffering and loss, is but temptation to perceive yourself defenseless and in hell. 3Yield not to this, and you will see all pain, in every form, wherever it occurs, but disappear as mists before the sun. 4A miracle has come to heal God's Son, and close the door upon his dreams of weakness, opening the way to his salvation and release. 5Choose once again what you would have him be, remembering that every choice you make establishes your own identity as you will see it and believe it is.
T-31.VIII.7. Deny me not the little gift I ask, when in exchange I lay before your feet the peace of God, and power to bring this peace to P667 everyone who wanders in the world uncertain, lonely, and in constant fear. 2For it is given you to join with him, and through the Christ in you unveil his eyes, and let him look upon the Christ in him.
T-31.VIII.8. My brothers in salvation, do not fail to hear my voice and listen to my words. 2I ask for nothing but your own release. 3There is no place for hell within a world whose loveliness can yet be so intense and so inclusive it is but a step from there to Heaven. 4To your tired eyes I bring a vision of a different world, so new and clean and fresh you will forget the pain and sorrow that you saw before. 5Yet this a vision is which you must share with everyone you see, for otherwise you will behold it not. 6To give this gift is how to make it yours. 7And God ordained, in loving kindness, that it be for you.
T-31.VIII.9. Let us be glad that we can walk the world, and find so many chances to perceive another situation where God's gift can once again be recognized as ours! 2And thus will all the vestiges of hell, the secret sins and hidden hates be gone. 3And all the loveliness which they concealed appear like lawns of Heaven to our sight, to lift us high above the thorny roads we travelled on before the Christ appeared. 4Hear me, my brothers, hear and join with me. 5God has ordained I cannot call in vain, and in His certainty I rest content. 6For you will hear, and you will choose again. 7And in this choice is everyone made free.
T-31.VIII.10. I thank You, Father, for these holy ones who are my brothers as they are Your Sons. 2My faith in them is Yours. 3I am as sure that they will come to me as You are sure of what they are, and will forever be. 4They will accept the gift I offer them, because You gave it me on their behalf. 5And as I would but do Your holy Will, so will they choose. 6And I give thanks for them. 7Salvation's song will echo through the world with every choice they make. 8For we are one in purpose, and the end of hell is near.
T-31.VIII.11. In joyous welcome is my hand outstretched to every brother who would join with me in reaching past temptation, and who looks with fixed determination toward the light that shines beyond in perfect constancy. 2Give me my own, for they belong to You. 3And can You fail in what is but Your Will? 4I give You thanks for what my brothers are. 5And as each one elects to join with me, the song of thanks from earth to Heaven grows from tiny scattered threads of melody to one inclusive chorus from a world redeemed from hell, and giving thanks to You. T-31.VIII.12. And now we say "Amen." 2For Christ has come to dwell in the abode You set for Him before time was, in calm eternity. 3The journey closes, ending at the place where it began. 4No trace of it remains. 5Not one illusion is accorded faith, and not one spot of darkness still remains to hide the face of Christ from anyone. 6Thy Will is done, complete and perfectly, and all creation recognizes You, and knows You as the only Source it has. 7Clear in Your likeness does the light shine forth from everything that lives and moves in You. 8For we have reached where all of us are one, and we are home, where You would have us be.
